Great strides have been made in bringing the Caribbean Yarddust website to life on the web. It has been quite a journey getting here, but meanwhile, out in the garden, growth and inspiration have continued whether the website was ready or not.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing some of the more unusual plants growing here. One that we are especially excited about is a rare, enormous heliconia that we have successfully propagated. Its spectacular hanging flower can reach around five feet long. This is an unusual specimen, and we look forward to sharing more about it.

Our first Praying Hands banana plant is also thriving and is now as tall as any of us. We are eagerly waiting for its first pups so that we can begin spreading this variety around our farms, with the hope of eventually propagating enough plants to offer some for sale.

Avocado season is only about a month away, while trays of new vegetable seedlings are getting started and we are currently on the lookout for sugarcane sprouts to add to the mix.

At the same time, we are entering the most active weeks of hurricane season. Living and growing in Puerto Rico never lets us forget that our plans depend on more than our own discipline and determination. We plant, build, propagate and plan for the future—but nature always has a voice in what happens next.

For now, we keep growing.
