Seven years ago, we planted about twenty jackfruit trees with high hopes but little idea of just how much they would change our view of tropical food production. Today, those trees have become some of the most treasured members of our food forest, and every fruiting season fills us with the same sense of wonder.

Jackfruit is simply an incredible tree. It grows quickly, thrives in our tropical climate, and rewards patience with enormous fruits packed full of sweet, juicy flesh. Each fruit can feed a family, and even the seeds are edible, providing a nutritious source of protein when cooked. It’s difficult to think of another tree that offers so much food from a single harvest.

Despite all of these remarkable qualities, jackfruit is still surprisingly uncommon in Puerto Rico. We hope that changes. Over the years, sharing this fruit with friends, neighbors, and first-time tasters has become one of our greatest joys. Watching someone experience a perfectly ripe jackfruit for the first time is often enough to create another enthusiast.

Our goal is simple: to grow more trees and share as many seedlings as possible with anyone willing to plant one. We believe that every jackfruit tree planted is an investment in the future—a future with more local food, greater food security, and landscapes filled with productive trees instead of empty spaces.

For us, jackfruit represents more than an amazing fruit. It reminds us of the incredible abundance that nature is capable of producing when we take the time to work alongside it. We can hardly imagine why these trees aren’t growing in every suitable corner of the island, and we hope our enthusiasm inspires others to discover the joy of growing them as well.
